0.0 At the mountain pass of Somport begins the Spanish part of the Camino de Arles or Vía Tolosana, which comes from France. At 1630m altitude it is common to find snow until the spring.
Somport can be reached by bus, which departs from the Jaca bus station.

Desvío a San Juan de la Peña

36.3 Bifurcation signposted to take an alternative road through the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña. If you take the alternative route you pass through the town of Atares (+5km), San Juan de la Peña (+7.5km, bar, hotel in monastery), Santa Cruz de los Serós (+4.9km, hotel, bar, shop) , Binacua (+4.5km) and joins the official road in Santa Cilia de Jaca (+2.2km).
To continue the official way, go straight. At 6.5km we pass by a hotel with a bar-restaurant.

If you take the official road you must take the road on the left, the NA-5401, to pass through the town of Rocaforte.
If you opt for the alternative road you must continue straight ahead parallel to the river. It passes through the towns of Liédena (+3.6km, bar, shop, hostel), Lumbier (+6.3km, bar, shop, hotel), Nardués-Aldunate (+5.3km) and joining the official road 800m after.To cross the tunnels it is necessary to carry a lantern.
